Construction manager chosen for Easton intermodal project

EASTON, Pa. - Easton's city hall will move into the new intermodal facility by April 2015, according to an agreement with the management firm overseeing construction of the three-floor building.

The information was included in a construction management agreement with J.G. Petrucci Co. of Clinton Twp., N.J., approved by city council on Wednesday night.

Council decided three months ago to relocate city hall from the Alpha Building in the unit block of 3rd Street to the top two floors of the proposed intermodal facility at 123 South 3rd as a way of saving taxpayer money and getting the Alpha Building back on the tax rolls.

Ground was broken on March 22 for the proposed $26 million intermodal center, which will include a LANTA bus terminal, the National High School Sports Hall of Fame, commercial space and a new 375-space city parking deck.

Mayor Sal Panto said the estimated costs for work in the construction management agreement were "on the high side. We expect the bids to come in lower, but we don't want to tip our hand."

Panto also said the overall construction cost estimate "is the ceiling, not the floor."
