Crash closes southbound lanes of Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension

Both lanes reopened within two hours

Accident closes lanes on the Turnpike

NORTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - The southbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension were closed  because of an accident for just under an hour Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. Monday between the Mahoning Valley and Lehigh Valley interchanges in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County.

A 69 News crew at the scene said the accident involved an SUV and a small car, the latter of which appeared to have been on fire.

The left southbound lane reopened by about 2:10 p.m. and both lanes were open by 3:15 p.m.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
