Crash involving tractor trailer closes Route 309 in South Whitehall

Accident on Route 309

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - An accident involving a tractor trailer, a box truck and two other vehicles closed a stretch of Route 309 in Lehigh County on Thursday.

The accident was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the area of Route 309 and Huckleberry Road in South Whitehall Township.

Reports from the scene were that four people were injured, but everyone was said to be conscious and alert.

Rescue crews did have to cut a door off a car to free some of the people involved in the accident.

Crews were also working to clean up fuel that spilled from the tractor trailer and another vehicle, officials said.

Route 309 was reopened about two hours after the accident.
