Seven baby ducks rescued; one feared dead

Ducks rescued from drain

HANOVER TWP., Pa. - Crews were called out to rescue several baby ducks that became trapped below a drainage grate in Hanover Township, Northampton County.

Colonial Regional police, Hanover Township fire/rescue personnel and wildlife officials were called out to the area of Schoenersville and City Line roads shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The person who informed police of the baby ducks being trapped tells 69 News that the mother duck was "going crazy" after discovering her babies got stuck under the drainage grate.

Crews said the baby ducks -- believed to be just one day old -- constantly moved between grate openings under the street, making the rescue effort difficult.

Crews were able to rescue seven of the eight baby ducks.

One duck is feared dead after disappearing under the grate.

The surviving ducks were reunited with the mom at a nearby pond.
