DA: Family argument ends in deadly shooting in Northampton County

LOWER MOUNT BETHEL TWP., Pa. - One person was killed in a shooting stemming from an argument in Northampton County Saturday night.

District Attorney John Morganelli said the shooting happened at a home on Upper Little Creek Road in Lower Mount Bethel Township. It was reported around 10 p.m.

Ryan Boomer, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the upper torso, state police said.

Dennis Maurice Long, 52, is charged with criminal homicide.

"This appears to be a domestic matter. These individuals were related," said Morganelli.

Long and the victim were family, but it's not yet clear how they were related, the district attorney said.

Police interviewed witnesses and took a statement from shooter, according to Morganelli.

"Based on the information I instructed the state police to file a general charge of criminal homicide so that individual would not be released that evening," Morganelli said.

State police were at the scene all night and stayed there into Sunday afternoon.

"I think the state police took a wide area to make sure people weren't coming and going," Morganelli said.
