DA to release more details Tuesday on deadly Bethlehem Twp. standoff

Press conference scheduled for Tues. 1:30pm

BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. - Officials are expected to release more information about the standoff that left two people dead in Bethlehem Township last week.

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli has scheduled a news conference Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the DA's office in Easton.

Morganelli will be joined by Pennsylvania State Police, Bethlehem Township Police, City of Bethlehem Police and the Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek.

The deadly standoff began around 1:30 p.m. Friday when officers responded to a house on Dennis Street for a call of a woman bleeding outside.

Police say Justin Kephart, 36, shot and killed his mother, and then fired a barrage of gunshots at officers.

Police did not identify Kephart's mother, whose body lay outside the yard throughout the ordeal, but did say Kephart called another family member and told them he shot her.

The standoff lasted about nine hours and ended when police entered the home and found Kephart dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The district attorney says no further information will be released until Tuesday's news conference.
