DA wants judge assigned to Gesslein appeal to recuse himself

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin is weighing in on an appeal filed by a security guard convicted of manslaughter.

Andrew Gesslein, of Tilden Twp., Berks Co., was sentenced earlier this month to five to 10 years in prison.

Gesslein shot and killed Michael Randolph at the North End Republican Club in Allentown last year, police said.

Gesslein filed an appeal last week, and martin said he's asked the judge assigned to hear the appeal -- Robert Steinberg -- to recuse himself from the case, but it's not clear why.
