Damitry Laws broke the laws in Wilson

Suspect faces robbery and assault charges

WILSON BOROUGH, Pa. - Damitry Laws has been jailed on robbery and assault charges for participating in an attack on a pedestrian earlier this week, report Wilson borough police.

Police arrested Laws for striking the victim and forcibly taking his possessions.

The suspect faces four robbery charges, two counts of receiving stolen property, plus theft by unlawful taking and simple assault.

Laws, 18, resides at 1918 Freemansburg Ave. in the borough.

On Monday morning, John Lynch showed up at the police department "with blood about his face and person. His nose was red and swollen and multiple red markings were about his person."

Lynch told police he made about $67 in purchases at a local store, including cigarettes and tea bags. While walking home in the borough, Lynch told police, a group of males assaulted him and fled with his purchases.

A witness told police Laws and another man, identified as Jeremy Smith Jr., struck Lynch and took a grocery bag from the victim in the 1900 block of Washington Boulevard.

PoliceĀ  still are looking for Smith.

Laws was arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge James Narlesky and committed to Northampton County Prison. Bail was set at $50,000 cash.

A preliminary hearing has been set for 10 a.m. June 28 before Magisterial District Judge Richard Yetter.
