Defense rests in trial of Allentown mayor

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The defense rested Monday afternoon in the trial of Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski.

Closing arguments begin Tuesday and are expected to start around 8:30 a.m., lasting over seven hours.

The jury may start deliberating as early as Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors continued their cross-examination of the mayor on Monday morning, trying to attack potential inconsistencies in his testimony and his July 2, 2015 interview with FBI agents after a search of city hall and to establish a pattern of trying to hide his actions. Pawlowski stands accused of allegedly trading favors and city contracts in exchange for campaign donations.
