Disabled man's stolen scooter found hidden half a block away

Stolen scooter returned to disabled man

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A stolen scooter has been recovered and returned to a disabled man in Allentown.

Jason Stauffer, of the 500 block of Auburn Street, has cerebral palsy and travels mostly by motorized scooter, so when his custom-built scooter went missing overnight Sunday, Stauffer turned to police.

Police located the scooter under sticks and branches in a neighbor's backyard just a half a block away.

Captain Reinik with Allentown Police says the neighbor is not a suspect and was the person who called police about the scooter being in the yard.

"One can only assume that it was taken with the intent to return and get it later," Reinik said.

Police returned the scooter to Stauffer's house. Reinik said the scooter was in working condition, but Stauffer did note that it saw some damage.

Police do not have a suspect at this time.
