Disc golf store opens in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Lehigh Valley's first stand-alone disc golf store "Discinsanity" opened in Allentown on Thursday.

Disc Golf is essentially golf with Frisbees, or discs.

Jeff Cope has been playing Disc Golf for 12 years before deciding to open his own store.

"This is my passion, this is what I want to do, and more importantly, be my own boss," Cope said.

One of the main draws of the sport is that it's easy to get into.

"One of my buddies was like, 'hey you want to tag along?' It's the best thing I did because I'm hooked now," said customer Felipe Claudio. "I don't need a whole bunch of equipment, you know. I could just pull up to a park and have some fun. Once I got into the sport I started seeing like wow, there's a lot of places where you can go play."

Thankfully for Cope, the store didn't need much work.

"A lot of little things. Put a floor in, did some painting and staining of the wood," he said.

And the the disc-golf community has responded well.

"I'm the only store in the Lehigh Valley that does disc golf only," Cope said. "Everybody I've talked to has been pretty excited about it."

Cope said he hopes the store continues to spread through word of mouth and draws new people in. His store is near the Allentown Fairground on North 19th Street.

"With the fair coming up, talk to people as they come in that don't know about it and broaden the horizon from there for everybody," he said.
