Dogs, cats, rabbit pulled from burning home in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Nine puppies, seven dogs, two cats, and a rabbit are all alive, thanks to some very heroic emergency responders in Allentown.  All were rescued from a house fire Thursday morning.

Fiona is a beautiful German shepherd with nine adorable pups.

"I want to eat them up," said Becky Remaly, supervising nurse at Valley Central Vet Clinic, where the animals were all taken.  "They're just too cute."

And Mom is remarkably calm considering the life-threatening ordeal she just survived.  The flames broke out just before 11 a.m. at a home in the 800 block of North Kiowa Street, near Dieruff High School.

"There was a lot of flames in the front window there, and then they started coming out with dogs."" said neighbor Joe Oravec.  "The lady is a -- she breeds German Shepherds."

The residence is a home-based German Shepherd breeder called "Von Moyer Haus," according to the the breeder's website.  The home is owned by John Moyer, according to property records. Several of the newborn puppies are listed as already sold on the site.  The site says some of the animals are bred as service dogs.

The puppies were all treated and released by Thursday night, according to Remaly.  She couldn't thank emergency crews enough.

"They did a great job of getting all the animals out fast, getting oxygen to them, getting them stabilized," she said.

Firefighters contained the flames to the home's first floor, but the house has extensive smoke damage, according to Allentown Fire Capt. John Christopher.  He said the fire has been ruled accidental, but investigators have not been able to pinpoint a cause.
