DOH: Hospital didn't maintain safe environment for patient

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Department of Health is scrutinizing St. Luke's Hospital Fountain Hill in Lehigh County.

Jonathan Hanchick died in June after jumping out a window at the hospital. His family had said he might have been trying to escape.

Hanchick, 26, was in the hospital recovering from a motorcycle accident and was facing DUI charges.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health said the hospital failed to maintain a safe environment for a patient with active behavioral symptoms.

The department also said the staff assigned to monitor Hanchick didn't have proper training.

St. Luke's said it immediately completed and instituted action plans that have met the department's approval.
