Donegan students celebrate leadership program

Some students of Donegan Elementary School in Bethlehem celebrated a commencement of sorts Tuesday night into a very special program.

The Student Leadership Program aims to help students interested in becoming engaged leaders in their school as well as their community by being assigned different duties.

Students have been actively involved since this summer but tonight marked their induction into the program.

"It has pushed them to a higher standard," said Principal Sonia Vazquez. "Because that is a main part of it, they have to behave and they have to be the best of the best academically and we're not talking grades, just trying hard. And the exceed those expectations."

The program originally started for students in the 5th grade 4 years ago but due to its success has since spread to the 4th and 3rd grade as well.
