Downtown Allentown's Holiday Inn to close

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Developer J.B. Reilly's City Center has another major Allentown project in the works. 

The downtown Holiday Inn plans to close Dec. 27 and Reilly has made a deal to buy the building. 

On Wednesday, the NIZ authority announced approval of a project to build a new hotel and convention center at the location along with office and residential space.

General Manager of the Holiday Inn, J.R. Lebron says there are 50 full-time and 20 part-time employees who will be affected by the closure. 

City Center hopes to begin the new project in the first quarter of 2018.
