Dr. Roy is the G.O.A.T.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - It was a simple announcement made on Twitter: no school on Thursday - it's a snow day.

Bethlehem Area School District Superintendent Dr. Joseph Roy says he was just doing his thing.

He never expected it would turn “into“ a thing.

"You know, Bethlehem kids are down to earth, they're good kids, and they're funny!" Roy says.

And when you've got a hefty number of funny followers on Twitter, you've gotta expect some A+ social media replies from students who were pretty happy with the news.

"Not all heroes wear capes," one user wrote on Twitter.

"You're so inspirational, Dr. Roy," wrote another.

Someone else simply posted a video of rapper Drake clapping...to which Dr. Roy replied, 'What's a Drake?'

"I was a high school principal, so I can be a little bit of a smart aleck with high school kids for fun," Dr. Roy says with a bit of a sly smile.

Then Dr. Roy's snow day announcement went viral.

Buzzfeed ran with it, and it started trending on Twitter.

Move over George and Amal Clooney and make way for "THE G.O.A.T.!" (Dr. Roy says he's glad he recently learned that one meant 'Greatest of All Time.')

"Honestly, if it wasn't for the Super Bowl last weekend, and people using that phrase with Tom Brady, I wouldn't have known what that meant...It might mean something else on a day when I don't have a snow day, when everybody wants a snow day!" he says.

Bur for now, he remains the greatest.

In fact, as one student put it: "Google doesn't lie" and placed his face on a timeline of "the greatest people in history.“

Yep, plopped right between George Washington and Aristotle...there's Dr. Roy.

As for his education level on Twitter, Dr. Roy refers to himself as an "elementary" user, but says he is grateful that the tool can be used for the greater good.

"It's really been a surprising and unintended consequence of using Twitter. High school students and middle schoolers, too, feel that they know me, because of social media, so when I go walk the halls at Liberty or Freedom, everybody knows me and everybody says hello. It's really nice. There's no way that in such a large district, kids would know me in the extent that they do without Twitter and social media," Roy says.

Of course, there was that someone who had to ask the ominous question - "how about Friday?"

Dr. Roy is giving them their answer - no snow day Friday, just a 2-hour delay.

Hey, at some point, even the G.O.A.T has to reign things in.
