Driver in Route 309 accident may face charges

Friday crash involved two tractor-trailers

UPPER SAUCON TWP., Pa. - The Lehigh County District Attorney will determine whether any charges will be filed against the truck driver believed to be responsible for the Friday accident on Route 309 in Upper Saucon Township.

The truck and another tractor trailer crashed around 11 a.m. Friday at the Route 309-Center Valley Parkway intersection, not far from the Promenade shopping center.

Cpl. Michael Fritz of Upper Saucon police said the accident still is being investigated.

But he added police are fairly confident the unidentified driver ran red lights at that intersection.

It took three hours for rescuers to free the driver who is believed to have caused the crash.  He was trapped in his rig. That driver was released from the hospital over the weekend. His name has not yet been released by police.

Fritz said citations likely will be issued against the driver, and the district attorney's office will determine whether any further charges should be filed.
