Drivers to pay higher gas prices over holiday weekend

Drivers to pay higher gas prices over holiday weekend

According to AAA Mid-Atlantic, some 4.7 million people are expected to hit the road this weekend across Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

However no matter where you're planning on going, expect to pay more when you fill up.

"In the Lehigh Valley our average is about $3.69 a gallon and that's about 27 cents over a year ago," said Theresa Podguski, Director of Legislative Affairs with AAA.

The national average for a gallon of regular this weekend is $3.66 the highest it's been for the Fourth of July since 2008.

Podguski says the hike is due to two things, current events in Iraq and demand.

According to AAA's numbers, less people plan to fly this Fourth of July and more will be hitting the roads.

More travelers are also expected this Fourth of July to be one of the busiest in the past ten years because the holiday falls on a Friday.
