Drug bust lands 14 behind bars

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Several law enforcement agencies said they dismantled a massive cocaine distribution ring on Wednesday.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said a  total of 14 people were arrested, 11 men and 3 women, after several law enforcement agencies in the Lehigh Valley executed search warrants just after 6:00am.

The investigation has been ongoing for six months.

"This was a major cocaine distribution ring operating in primarily in the city of Allentown," said Martin. "The operation was deemed high risk because intelligence gathered during the investigation predicted that many of the targets possessed firearms."

The person facing the longest list of charges is Efrain Miranda, III, 28.

He has been charged with 31 counts of delivery of cocaine and one count of corrupt organizations.

Many of the other defendants were charged with possession charges and intent to deliver.

Officers also seized eight guns, including an assault rifle, ten vehicles, a bulletproof vest, $40,000 and a kilo of cocaine in the raids.

Officers from state and federal agencies in Allentown, Bethlehem and Whitehall Township all assisted in the investigation.

Police said this bust shows that several agencies can work together to help stop crime in the Lehigh Valley.

"I think this is a good sign to the citizens that we are going to keep the pressure on, we're not going to let it sit and we're going to work together with everybody so they can't cross municipal lines to avoid prosecution," said Allentown Police Chief Roger Maclean.

District attorney Martin said he believes this drug operation has been going for a significant amount of time.

He also believes the drugs that were seized would have stayed in the Lehigh Valley.
