ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Police allegedly found pot, meth, crack and heroin inside the car of an Allentown pair that the was subject of a months-long drug investigation.

Sixto J. Gavilanes and Jalitza M. Cruz face drug and conspiracy charges following their arrests Tuesday morning in Allentown. District Judge Michael Faulkner arraigned the pair later that night, setting bail for each at $150,000.

The Allentown Police Department’s vice and intelligence unit was prepared to serve a warrant on the pair’s apartment in the 1300 block of South Howard Street shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to court records. Investigators spotted them driving away in a blue BMW and followed Gavilanes and Cruz to the area of North Seventh and West Allen streets.

Police detained the 23-year-old Cruz after she parked and walked away from the vehicle. As officers approached the 24-year-old Gavilanes sitting in the passenger seat, they allegedly spotted a pile of crack cocaine sitting in the center console, according to records.

Police took Gavilanes into custody and allegedly found 47 grams of crack, nearly 5 grams of heroin, 2 grams of methamphetamine and 4 grams of pot inside the car. Authorities said the search also turned up $700 cash, a pair of cell phones, rubber bands, packaging materials, plastic measuring spoons and a grinder.

Authorities charged Cruz with three felony counts and seven misdemeanor counts of conspiracy. Police charged Gavilanes, meanwhile, with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana possession.

Neither posted bail. They were sent to Lehigh County Jail to await preliminary hearings scheduled for Sept. 12.
