Early-morning shooting turns deadly in Allentown

Officials: Carlos Rodriguez, 22, fatally shot

Homicide investigation in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Police are investigating a reported shooting homicide, in the same area of another homicide earlier this week.

Police converged on the 700 block of West Washington Street around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Officials said their investigation revealed one man was fatally shot. Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said the victim is Carlos Rodriguez, 22, of Allentown.

Grim said Rodriguez died at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury just after 5am Saturday.  The cause of death was attributed to a gunshot wound to the body.

The homicide is being investigated by Allentown Police Department's Criminal Investigations unit and the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, officials said.

On Wednesday, Oct. 24, police said 27-year-old James Sims was shot in the back in broad daylight in the 700 block of Washington Street. He later died at the hospital. No arrests have been made in that case.
