Easton man charged after allegedly punching pregnant fiancee

EASTON, Pa. - An Easton man is facing assault charges after his pregnant fiancée accused him of stomping on her head and punching her in the stomach.

Easton police were dispatched to Easton Hospital in neighboring Wilson Borough on Tuesday to investigate an assault report. The victim told officers that her now ex-fiancé, Wilfredo Romero, had assaulted a day earlier in their Northampton Street apartment, according to court records.

The victim alleged that Romero punched her in the stomach, head and face and stomped on her head. She showed police bruises on her stomach and neck and told officers she was 23 weeks pregnant, according to records. The victim told police that she was suffering from stomach pain.

Authorities issued a warrant for Romero’s arrest, and he was arraigned Wednesday night on single counts of simple assault and harassment. District Judge John Capobianco arraigned the 21-year-old, setting bail at $10,000.

Romero failed to post bail and was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 5. As a bail condition, the judge ordered that Romero undergo a mental health evaluation.
