Easton parking wars an 'ongoing issue'

VIDEO: Easton parking wars

EASTON, Pa. - Some Easton residents said parking problems are plaguing their neighborhood.

People who live on S. 5th St. tell 69 News they often arrive home and find there is nowhere to park.

Residents said many of the parking problems are caused by employees who work at downtown businesses and don't want to feed the meter or pay for a long-term lot.

They say that, coupled with Easton's growing downtown means parking is at a premium on weekends or when there is an event that draws a crowd, like a show at the State Theatre.

"The parking meters have created a problem. People don't want to pay 25 cents for 15 minutes. They'd rather drive around for 20 minutes looking for free parking,” said Randy Stroever.

Mayor Sal Panto said parking is an ongoing discussion in Easton.

"If you bring up the p-word, you get arguments for an hour-and-a-half to two hours. It's an issue and it's a tough issue,” Panto said.
