Easton Police: Fleeing hit-and-run...

EASTON, Pa. - A woman is dead after a driver fleeing the scene of a crash smashed into her car at a high speed, according to Easton police.

Easton Police Captain David Beitler says around 11:40 a.m. Friday, a woman was involved in a minor crash near the Wawa on Larry Holmes Drive and Lehigh Drive.

Police say the driver then fled the scene westbound on Lehigh Drive at a high rate of speed, police said.

The driver narrowly missed one eastbound car but then, according to Beitler, struck another vehicle.

Then, the driver of the fleeing car struck a second vehicle traveling eastbound, and ultimately overturned.

A man and a woman in the first car that was struck walked away unharmed, according to police.

However, the female driver of the second vehicle that was hit was transported to Easton Hospital where she later died, according to the Northampton County coroner.

Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

In the fleeing car that overturned were the female driver and a male passenger. The extent of their injuries is unknown, however, both were taken to the hospital.

The investigation continues.
