Easton reaches deal with teachers, adds 4% tax hike

Easton teachers get 2 yr deal

Teachers in the Easton Area School District can breathe a sigh of relief, at least for the next two years.

The school board reached a two-year deal with the teachers' union Thursday night that calls for no furloughs, and no program cuts.

The deal does come at a price though:  a 4 percent tax hike for property owners.

The district also said it would use $1.25 million from the fund balance over the next two years.

Earlier this month school officials said the school board needed to look at another plan that would eliminate 70 teaching positions.
