Emmaus Mayor breaks tie vote on borough computer files contract

EMMAUS, Pa. - It took a tie-breaking vote from Emmaus' mayor Tuesday night for the borough to secure a computer files backup and storage service contract when one council member voiced his concern the price was too high.

Mayor Winfield Iobst gave his nod for Borough Manager Shane Pepe to sign a contract with Integra One of Allentown to compress, encrypt, manage, and store offsite Emmaus' municipal files including the police department and ambulance corps for $510 per month under a three-year contract.

Councilman Wesley Barrett owner of Wesley Works Real Estate said he thought the Integra price was too steep since he pays less for a similar service for his own business.

Although he voiced his concerns, Barrett cautioned council he had not researched prices and service contract particulars from other providers since he only became aware of the proposed contract with Integra last Friday.

Pepe stated securing a reliable backup system for borough files is a situation he considers an emergency.

"If I lose the files tomorrow and there's no backup in place, that's it," Pepe said. He also noted the borough has been dealing with Integra for the past ten years and their work has been superior.

In addition to Barrett, Councilmen Roy Anders and Chris DeFrain voted against the  $18,360 total three-year contract.

In other business, council announced the new Emmaus Ambulance Corps subscription prices.

Prices are as follows:

  • Senior single annual subscription---$40 (no increase)
  • Single subscription---$45 ($5 increase)
  • Senior couple (new)---$50
  • Family Rate---$60 ( $10 increase)
  • Business rate (including employees)---$125 to $200
