Esterly's wife says she is 'moving on with her life'

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Her husband ran off to Mexico with a friend of their teenage daughter. Now, Lehigh County's Stacey Esterly is sharing her side of the story.

She says she didn't see it coming, but what she did see was the pain it caused the couple's four daughters.

Stacey Esterly says she prayed every night for the safe return of her husband Kevin Esterly and 16-year-old Amy Yu.

She says she is glad her husband is now behind bars and she is divorcing him.

"My children would cry every night asking when daddy's coming home," said Esterly.

Appearing on Good Morning America, Stacey Esterly says the last time she saw her husband was March 5, when she kissed him goodbye and went to work.

Hours later, 45-year-old Kevin Esterly and 16-year-old Amy Yu fled Allentown and flew to Mexico.

The two-week search for them made national headlines and Stacey Esterly says she couldn't shield her kids from the news.

She says her 14-year-old-daughter was Amy's friend.

"She feels betrayed obviously on both ends but she is just, she has been very strong and I'm very proud of her," said Esterly.

Stacey Esterly says she and her husband treated Amy like family for eight years and until recently she had no idea a secretive relationship was forming.

She says after her husband was caught taking Amy out of school and renting an apartment four blocks from Amy's home, she tried to get them to cease contact.

She says their running away hurt her family but it also caused a financial hardship as Kevin Esterly allegedly took $4,000 from the family before he left.

"I never thought in a million years we would ever be in the situation, let alone my children, so we are taking it day by day, minute to minute we are working as a team and we will get through this," she said.

Kevin Esterly and Amy Yu were located March 17. A Yu family attorney says Amy is now at KidsPeace.

Kevin Esterly is behind bars charged with a third degree felony.

Stacey Esterly says her husband has tried calling her from jail. She is rejecting his calls, saying after what he did, she is getting a divorce and moving on with her life.
