ESU to offer degree programs in Lehigh Valley

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A university in Monroe County is extending its reach into the Lehigh Valley.

Mayor John Callahan, D-Bethlehem, announced Wednesday that East Stroudsburg University will open a center on West Broad Street.

The accelerated degree completion program will offer bachelor's programs in public health, with concentrations in administration, community health and hotel management.

ESU already has a similar program up and running in Philadelphia.

"We just thought it made a lot of sense for us to expand the mission to serve beyond the campus and not just sit on the campus alone, and that's why we went to Philadelphia, and that's why we're coming to the Lehigh Valley," said Robert Dillman, university president.

The Leigh Valley center will open this fall. Officials expect between 8,000 and 11,000 students each year.
