ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Family and neighbors are reacting after authorities safely returned missing Allentown teen Amy Yu to the Lehigh Valley.
Saturday, Yu and 45-year-old Kevin Esterly were located in Mexico nearly two weeks after police say the pair ran off together.
They were then flown to Florida, where Esterly remains in custody.
On Sunday, 69 News spoke with a neighbor of Yu's family, the brother of Kevin Esterly, and the attorney for Kevin's wife Stacey, John Waldron.
As Esterly sits in a Miami jail awaiting his extradition to Lehigh County, 16-year-old Amy Yu is back in Allentown.
Amy arrived Sunday morning after flying into Philadelphia from Miami.
Saturday morning, Yu and Esterly were found at the Playa del Carmen resort in Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Both were smiling as they were taken into custody -- Kevin in handcuffs, Amy in a car.
Esterly was arrested and charged with felony interference with the custody of children.
Back on March 5th, Amy was supposed to go to school but never went.
Police said later that day, she and Esterly boarded a flight from Philly to Dallas, where a local resident spotted them and called the police.
A neighbor of Yu, who did not want to be identified says she saw Amy loading a large duffel bag the week before she disappeared.
Yu's family said Amy took off with her mother's passport and $10,000. Police said Esterly took $4,000 from his wife's bank account.
Even though the pair disappeared together on March 5, Esterly's wife Stacey's attorney, John Waldron, says Amy and Kevin had been in a relationship for some time, which the two families had tried to stop.
Waldron says the Esterlys met Yu eight years ago and treated her like one of their daughters.
But Mrs. Esterly says in the last 8 months, her intuition told her the relationship had turned into something more -- that he neglected his 4 daughters and lost a job over the relationship with Yu, according to Waldron.
The neighbor also tells 69 News she has witnessed the police showing up at the Yu house several times due to issues inside the house.
Kevin Esterly's brother, Rodney, says his family hasn't seen Kevin in six years.
He wouldn't comment beyond that other than to say he's relieved the search for Yu and his brother is over.
Amy's mother, Mui Luu tells us Amy went to St. Luke's Hospital Sunday morning, but did not say why or when she is returning home.
As far as Esterly is concerned, Allentown Police do not have a timeline on his extradition back to Lehigh County.
In the meantime, his wife is filing for divorce and sole custody of their four children, according to Waldron.
Waldron said Kevin Esterly called Stacey from a Miami jail several times, but she denied the calls.
