Family of Route 22 hit-and-run victim makes plea for justice, closure

Niece urges driver to come forward

Family calls for justice

A family is calling for justice, after learning their loved one was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run on Route 22 in Bethlehem Township, Northampton County.

Jennifer Monka, of Mount Pocono, said she learned about her great uncle's death from a posting on social media.

"We didn't know anything until the news and when everyone found out they were devastated," Monka said.

Pennsylvania State Police said Paul Agens, 60, pulled over along the side of Route 22 East, near the Route 33 interchange, early Saturday morning.

According to police, Agens, of Hamburg, New Jersey, was filling his car with gas when another vehicle hit him and drove off. Agens was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they are working with little to no clues.

Monka said she wants answers and justice.

"Closure, not trying to look to get the person in trouble, extensive trouble. We just want closure. Why would you not come forward, run and hide? It hurts not knowing who did that to your family member," Monka said.

Monka hopes fear doesn't rob her family of that closure.

"If you are scared, it is okay, accidents happen. Just come forward, talk to the police, family, talk to whoever, somebody," Monka said.

Police have no information on the type of car that hit Agens.

State Police are asking anyone with information to call (610) 861-2026.
