FBI: Former teacher arrested for child pornography

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An FBI investigation that began in Florida ended with the arrest of a former teacher from Bethlehem on child pornography charges. 

Authorities arrested 64-year-old David S. Golden Jr. Thursday afternoon, after searching his Bethlehem home. FBI officials said he admitted to having hundreds of sexually-charged online conversations with minors, as well as requesting and receiving sexually explicit photos of them.

The investigation began in January, when the FBI's Jacksonville office received information from a father of a 12-year-old girl, that she was being sexually exploited by an unknown male who identified himself as "Don Hine." He represented himself as an 18-year-old from eastern Pennsylvania.

On November 1, the father had taken the girl's phone and found a sexually explicit conversation in the Kik app, That occurred around October 31, 2016. 

Kik is an instant messaging app that is known for allowing users to hide their actual identity. For example, users can register without providing personal information, and only the username is required.

According to the FBI, the father took screenshots of the Kik conversation and handed over the phone for forensic testing.

Based on the investigation in Florida, the FBI said it sent a lead to its Allentown office on January 27. The Allentown FBI office received a digital video disk with the Kik messages and the results of the forensic analysis the girl's phone. 

The FBI said 'Don Hine' said that he was an 18-year-old man from eastern Pennsylvania who played a trumpet and liked classical music. The minor victim claimed she was 17, when she was actually 12 years old. 'Don Hine' repeatedly asked her to record sexual acts and send him images and videos, according to the FBI. 

A federal subpoena was served by the FBI to Kik to obtain user subscriber information on 'Don Hine.' Kik reported the subscriber information associated with 'Don Hine', had an associated username of 'tubeyou1.' The FBI said 'Don Hine,' had a listed email address containing 'dgolden.' The FBI said it traced the IP address to David Golden Jr., at an address in Bethlehem that was known to them. 

According to the FBI, another IP address he used was subscribed to by the Arts Academy Charter School in Allentown. During the investigation, the FBI said it conducted surveillance of Golden's home and determined he was employed by the academy. According to the school's website, Golden was listed as a music faculty member. 

On Thursday, the FBI raided his home. The FBI said during an interview, Golden admitted to using a website to meet minors and would then continue communication through Kik. Golden admitted his preference is for girls around age 15 or 16 years old, according to the FBI.

Authorities said Golden admitted to using the Kik profile name 'Don Hine.' He also admitted to having hundreds of online sexually explicit communications with minors and exchanging sexually charged images with them, according to the FBI.

Golden told investigators that he was formerly a faculty member of the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts in Bethlehem but now works in facility management for the Arts Academy Charter Middle School in Salisbury Township. He's since been suspended.

FBI officials said they took his cell phone and found two sexually explicit chat threads with two different minor females. Investigators said they also discovered more than 100 images of minor girls engaged in sexually explicit conduct, on the phone. The Kik username on his phone was "youtube1."

The executive director of the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts said the school has not been contacted by authorities regarding Golden.

"Mr. Golden was employed as a substitute teacher at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts from Oct. 2008- June 2010 and was employed as a part-time instrumental music teacher from September 2010-June 2012. During his employment, Mr. Golden was cleared through all of the standard background clearances, including: Pennsylvania Child Abuse check, Pennsylvania Criminal Check and FBI criminal check," she added.

Golden will next be in court Monday for a bail hearing.
