ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Officials in Allentown are touting a milestone in a major bridge replacement project.
The pedestrian sidewalks on the 15th Street bridge are now open to the public.
The decorative handrails were the last piece of the puzzle in the $8.4 million replacement project. They were approved by inspectors on Wednesday.
In 2010, deterioration forced officials to close the bridge to northbound traffic. A weight limit also went into effect.
The entire bridge was closed in August of 2012 for demolition and reconstruction.
After months of construction, the bridge reopened to traffic in December, 2013.
