Fire damages old structure in northern Lehigh County

No one injured, flames quickly brought under control

HEIDELBERG TWP., Pa. - An old stone farmhouse was gutted by a fire Monday in Heidelberg Township, northern Lehigh County.

The fire was reported at 11:02 a.m. in a small "summer house," which was only about 20 feet away from the main residence on the property at 8521 Bake Oven Road.

The entire building was burning when firefighters arrived, but they were able to knock it down and get it under control within about 10 minutes

Fire Chief Jay Scheffler of Germansville Fire Company reported the building received extensive damage, including the complete loss of the roof.

No one was in the structure at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Scheffler said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials are looking at a wood-burning stove in the building as a possible source.
