Fire destroys old Rockdale Hotel in North Whitehall Township

Fire destroys old Rockdale Hotel in...

NORTH WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A large fire broke out at the old Rockdale Hotel located at 1806 Rockdale Road in North Whitehall Township Tuesday night around 7 p.m., according to Lehigh County Communications.

The three-story hotel had been converted to a home and was occupied at the time of the fire.

Footage of the blaze was captured by the 69 News Quadcopter team below.

Fire personnel were having a hard time getting to the home because it is located at the end of a dirt road and water is not easily available, according to authorities, so water tankers were called in to assist.

However, it may have been too much to ask as Fire crews told a 69 News crew on the scene the home was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived.

Laurys Station Fire Company Chief Robin Hood said everyone in the home made it out unharmed but the home has been rendered totally uninhabitable.

Chief Hood said crews will have to remain on scene overnight to prevent any flare-ups. A foam truck will also soak the home to assist in that effort.

In all, 15 crews were called to fight the fire.

PPL and State Police were also on scene.

No cause has been determined yet.
