Flag Day celebrated in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Friday was Flag Day, and the stars and stripes were flying high above Allentown.

A flag-raising ceremony was held Friday afternoon at City Hall Plaza in Allentown.

A number of veterans and city officials were on hand for the event.

On this day in 1777, the second Continental Congress adopted the flag for the United States.

Flag Day was first celebrated nationally in 1916, but Pennsylvania was the first state to recognize Flag Day as a state holiday in 1937.
