Fmr. State Rep. Joseph Brennan reports to jail

He starts sentence for simple assault and DUI

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A former Lehigh Valley lawmaker is officially behind bars.

Former State Representative Joe Brennan reported to Lehigh County Prison Monday  where he will serve a three-to-23 month jail sentence.

Brennan was arrested in August after police say he punched and choked his wife at their home in Fountain Hill, then drove away drunk.

Brennan dropped his bid for re-election and pleaded guilty to simple assault and drunken driving. He was sentenced Thursday in Lehigh County Court in Allentown.

Brennan was also arrested for DUI in 2011.
