For Valentine's Day, local glass artist touching hearts

WHITEHALL, Pa. - This Valentine's Day Weekend, a Lehigh County business is showing its heart by partnering with a local nonprofit to bring smiles to children.

The inside of Warner Art Glass Center in Whitehall is a little girl's dream.

"This is my first time seeing this kind of stuff, and I really like it.," said a wide eyed 10-year-old Nessa Stauffer said as she wandered the gallery.

Swirling color, glitter, shiny glass and Nessa's favorite, a mosaic giraffe.

"It's like all sparkly," Nessa said.

But Nessa didn't just come to the center to admire, she came to work. Along with her big sister and friend, she's making her very own glass artwork.

Something beautiful and unique, just like Nessa.

"I'm different from other kids. I have cancer in my brain and spine," Nessa said.

She was diagnosed at 20 months and has been through multiple rounds of chemo, enduring many ups and downs and trips to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

"It's a long drive down there, it's kinda nice missing school, but I gotta make up the work," Nessa said.

And that is Nessa, finding the joy in everything, with eyes that sparkle perhaps more than any piece of glass or glitter in the gallery.

"I can't wait to come back," Nessa said with a smile.

Because when she comes back she'll be able to pick up her flower paperweight and do it all over again with more friends.

The center has partnered with the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley for the entire weekend.

Gallery owner Charles Warner's eyes swelled with emotion when speaking about the event as he's also been touched by cancer and feels blessed to share something so special to him.

"I like to give back to children what I did as a child," Warner said.

Giving Nessa a priceless memory and a keepsake to show for it.

The center will have a variety of festivities throughout the weekend. On Saturday, February 13, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Sunday, February 14 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
