Forks looks at Richmond Road safety

FORKS TWP., Pa. - Forks Twp. supervisors say they will reach out to PennDOT about a potential safety hazard on the road to a township school.

The issue came up at Thursday night's work session in response to a complaint by a Richmond Road resident who says he's seen children walking the road to get to Forks Elementary School.

The resident is concerned because the road gets a lot of truck traffic.

"There's probably a handful that walk, but if one gets hurt, it's more than enough," said supervisor John O'Neil.

But township traffic consultant Amy Kaminsky said the real issue isn't so much the traffic but that there's nowhere for kids or any other pedestrians to walk.

Kamisnky said the resident wanted to bring his concern to the township but has also considered a circulating a petition.

For now, the township will contact the state about investigating the road to see what can be done.
