Former Allentown Fair chairman Ed Charles passes at age 98

ALLENTOWN - One of Allentown's most influential figures has passed away.

Ed Charles has died at the age of 98.  

Charles served as chairman of the Allentown Fair and Fairgrounds from 1975 through 2011.

The Whitehall native was known for his various work around the Lehigh Valley.

Through out the years, Charles was chairman of the board of the Allentown Osteopathic Hospital, vice-chairman of the Whitehall-Coplay School District Authority and president of the Lehigh County Children's Bureau, the Whitehall Township Chamber of Commerce and the Allentown Auto Dealers.

The family will release information on arrangements as soon as they become available.
