Four groups ask to withdraw lawsuit against hockey arena

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Three townships and a borough who were suing against the Allentown hockey arena's funding methods have officially asked to withdraw their lawsuit.

Lower Nazareth Twp., Upper Nazareth Twp., Bushkill Twp. and the Borough of Stockertown, have filed a notice to withdraw its lawsuit against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Neighborhood Improvement Zone, which was being used to help pay for the arena.

The groups were against earned income taxes of workers employed in Allentown, but living in outlying townships and boroughs, being used to finance the hockey arena.

The townships wanted that money to go back to the townships and boroughs where the employees lived.

Hanover Twp., Northampton Co., which initiated the lawsuit, is expected to withdraw its lawsuit in the coming weeks.
