Frederick Hernandez accused of kidnapping woman, baby, taking them to NJ

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A woman and baby were taken from their Bethlehem home against their will to New Jersey, police said.

The two were abducted from a home in the 500 block of Sioux Street after an argument escalated between the woman and a man, identified as 21-year-old Frederick Hernandez, police said.

The woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by Hernandez, who is the child's father, according to police.

Bethlehem police said family members notified police when they went to the Sioux Street home to check on the woman and baby's welfare and found them missing.

The family told police they found a note from the woman indicating that Hernandez kidnapped, assaulted and raped her.

Garfield police found Hernandez, the woman and child at Hernandez's home, where they took him into custody as a fugitive from justice.

He is currently being held, awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.

Hernandez has been charged with kidnapping, unlawful restraint, simple assault, terroristic threats, rape and endangering the welfare of children.
