Friends and family mourn Zakaiyah Halley

PHILLIPSBURG, Pa. - Candles were lit and hugs were exchanged as the sound of people crying echoed throughout this residential street in Phillipsburg.

"All her family is here. We loved her so much. She was just such a sweet caring and such a loving girl," says Alma Johnson.

Alma Johnson is Zakaiyah Halley’s mother.

She says she'll miss her daughter's smile and sense of humor most.

"This is devastating to all of us. This is something I never thought would ever happen in my life. Ever. Ever.  She didn't deserve this. She didn't deserve this at all," says Alma Johnson.

Zakaiyah's grandmother shared strong words for whomever is responsible for her granddaughter's death.

"You'll never be forgiven. You will never be forgiven for taking such a sweet person from all of us," says Dazane Johnson.

Laquita Shorter is a close family friend.

She helped lead this large crowd in remembering a young life cut short.

"She had love in her life. And for somebody to do this to her, I hope they get what they deserve," says Laquita Shorter.

A fundraiser has been set up to help with Zakaiyah's funeral expenses.
