Fugitive from Puerto Rico captured in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A fugitive from Puerto Rico has been captured in the Lehigh Valley.

The U.S. Marshals Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force - Allentown Division arrested 23-year-old Julio Rivera-Torres in the 2000 block of Vine Street in Allentown after he was spotted driving in the area around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities had learned he may be staying in the area.

"We feel that he was a danger not only in Puerto Rico but in the Lehigh Valley, as well, and we're glad that he's off the street," said Deputy Brian Hicks with the U.S. Marshals Service.

Rivera-Torres was wanted on charges including homicide and aggravated assault.

He is accused of killing three people after shooting into a crowded nightclub in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in February 2012.

"In the Marshal Service's opinion, Rivera-Torres is an extremely dangerous individual. He's charged not just with one homicide but with three homicides," said Hicks. "Based upon the information that we received from Puerto Rico that he was considered one of their most dangerous fugitives."

It's unclear how long Rivera-Torres has been in the Lehigh Valley.

He was taken to the Lehigh County Prison.
