'Get Your Tail On The Trail' promotes fitness

Hitting the trail

It's called 'Get Your Tail On The Trail' and the goal is pretty clear. The partnership between St. Luke's University Health Network and the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor aims to get people active.

"It's really just an initiative to get people moving and think about their activity and their health," explained Denise Rader with St. Luke's University Health Network.

The D&L Trail follows a 165-mile route through the region, offering easy access to families living in both the city or suburbs. Talk a walk, go for a run or pump your pedals on the trails.

"They're beautiful, it's very scenic," Rader shared. "And any bit of activity you can do is good for you."

The 165 Mile Challenge kicked off May 1st and runs through November. Participants log the miles the walk, run or bike, and can earn prizes as milestones are hit along the way.

"You don't have to do 165 miles, if you can get any kind of activity in there, any walking, riding, running, that is fabulous," smiled Rader.

This is the second year for the free program, and Rader tells us folks are already getting healthier because of it.

"Our first year was very successful, we had more than 2,500 people logging on and logging their miles on our website."
