GIANT teams with Second Harvest to provide Easter Hams

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A local grocery store teamed up with Second Harvest Food Bank to give back to the community this Easter holiday.

GIANT Food Stores donated 450 hams Thursday as part of it's 'Meat the Needs' program.

Workers lined up to help load the truck as the hams will be distributed to local soup kitchens and food pantries Friday. Second Harvest said this is the second year it has taken part in the program which donates about 20,000 pounds of frozen meat each month.

GIANT Food Store customers also showed their support by donating $640,297 through the store's Bag Hunger checkout donation drive that ran from March 8 to March 21.

The money will be donated to food banks throughout the area served by GIANT including Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Philabundance, and Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley.
