Good Samaritan recalls saving kids after father passed out behind wheel

SOUTH WHITEHALL, Pa. - An Allentown man was charged after he was found passed out in his car with two children in the backseat.

Officers said they found Michael Gubitosi, 36, passed out at the wheel at the intersection of Winchester and Crackersport roads Saturday.

Mary Nomie-Woodside said she was driving by when she noticed Gubitosi's car stopped in the middle of the road with two children, ages four and six, inside of it.

"The little girl was hitting the shoulder and yelling daddy, daddy, daddy," Nomie-Woodside said so she grabbed her phone and dialed 911.

But while she was on the phone with dispatchers, Nomie-Woodside said the car started to roll into the road.

I threw my phone down, screamed, and went running," she said.

Two other Good Samaritans stopped and activated the car's emergency brake while Mary got the children out of the backseat.

"The only thought I had in my head was get those kids out, get them to somewhere safe," she said.

Michael Gubitosi is charged with endangering the welfare of children and is out of jail on bond.
