Handcuffed suspect slips away as police break up fight

He faces a theft charge for stealing the cuffs

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Bethlehem police are looking for a 31-year-old who allegedly slipped away in handcuffs while officers were sorting out an early-morning fight.

Jorge Sanchez-Santiago, of North Second Street in Bethlehem, is facing escape, disorderly conduct and theft charges once he’s found. District Judge Nancy Matos-Gonzalez signed an arrest warrant for Sanchez-Santiago on Saturday.

Bethlehem police responded to the Publik House at 130 N. Second St. shortly before 2 a.m. Friday to break up a large group fighting on the sidewalk, according to court records. Officers said they saw Sanchez-Santiago allegedly punch another man.

He was arrested, handcuffed and told to sit on the sidewalk while police attended to the rest of the gathered crowd. Authorities said Sanchez-Santiago, still handcuffed, disappeared into the night.

A bar manager showed police a Facebook page under the name “Goldo Sanchez,” and authorities identified the profile picture as the man who slipped away. An officer knew Goldo as Sanchez-Santiago, which allowed authorities to verify his identity through a driver’s license search.

Sanchez-Santiago is facing a misdemeanor theft charge for walking away with the $38 pair of handcuffs.
