Hazmat situation reported in Northampton County

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Thirty-one people were taken to the hospital after a reported hazmat incident in Hanover Township, Northampton County Monday afternoon.

The incident took place at a building at 90 South Commerce Way. The building houses five businesses, including a daycare.

Officials say they do not know what caused the fumes that made people sick and evacuated the building.

County officials said the incident was originally reported as an indoor gas leak, but they have determined that is not the case.

UGI officials were called to the scene but said they found no evidence of a gas leak in the building. Officials say they found a very small leak in the back of the building, but that has since been fixed.

Crews at the scene say officials swept the building multiple times and everyone was cleared to go back inside.

No serious injuries are reported.

Officials are still investigating what caused the incident.
