Hector Pimentel-Caban guilty of attempted homicide

Setencing scheduled for May 27

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Hector Pimentel-Caban was found guilty of attempted homicide charges by a jury in Lehigh County Court Thursday.

The jury found him guilty on all charges.

Pimentel-Caban faces up to 40 years in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 27.

The defendant shot Derick Smith in the neck in the 900 block of Gordon Street last June.

Police had believed Pimental-Caban barricaded himself inside a house on Pine Street after the shooting.

But five hours later, they determined he wasn't inside.

He was arrested the following week.

Pimental-Caban was convicted in a murder-for-hire case in the Virgin Islands in the 1970s, according to Jay Jenkins in the Lehigh County District Attorney's office.
