Helicopter damaged in "hard landing" at LVIA

Accident happened just after noon Tuesday

HANOVER TWP, Pa. - A helicopter was damaged in a "hard landing" at Lehigh Valley International Airport just after noon Tuesday.

Emergency crews responded about 12:10 p.m. to what initially was described as a helicopter crash.

The unidentified female pilot was injured, with lacerations on her hand and a contusion on her head, according to an airport spokeswoman. She was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Bethlehem.

The injured woman has a private helicopter license and is working toward accumulating hours so she can get her commercial license.

The aircraft received significant damage.

The acccident was described as a "hard landing" by the airport spokeswoman. No word yet on what caused it. It is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The accident did not interrupt airport flight operations.
